Wandering 'round in cities I feel lost in...
I met a fellow Canadian on my way to catch my bus to Austria. It was comforting to run into someone who knows where you're from. Mackenzie lives in Ottawa but was in Europe visiting some of the places on his bucketlist. He shared some tips for visiting countries on my list, which was helpful.
The universe has a strange way of putting specific people in your path. I wasn't supposed to originally go to the station where I ran into Mackenzie. He only approached me because I took out my Roots hoodie and he recognized it. All of these little details, these series of events, could have played out any other way, and chances are I might not have met him. But, I believe this encounter might have been the universe telling me not to rush home.
The mountain air in Austria has been relaxing and furthermore, healing. Four years ago I don;t think I would ever be able to do a trip like this. It took me 4 different buses and over 14 hours of travelling, most of which, communicating with Germans who didn't speak any english. Four years ago I can remember having to make a trip to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) downtown Toronto for a class homework assignment. My close friend from residence and I made our way from North York to the gallery and I can remember heavily relying on her because at this point my thoughts were consumed by my anxiety. I've been able to prove to myself in a short time that my anxiety doesn't rule my life, that I'm stronger than it tells me I am.
Hopefully all my Canadian friends and fam are having a lovely Thanksgiving. This will be my first without turkey and stuffing, but I've substituted it with a Bratwurst! Check out more photos of my travels on my Instagram by clicking here.
Neue Bop: Boston by Dermot Kennedy
This song is where I got the title of this blog post from. Dermot Kennedy has a beautifully familiar voice, it's comfortable and it's easy to get lost in his music. I'm looking forward to hear what else he releases. Stay safe and happy. Sending all of my love from the chilly Austrian Alps.
